  • The Chronic Disease Management Scheme is a Government initiative that assists people living with a chronic disease or complex medical illness. Medicare rebates are available for treatment from allied health professionals, including Psychologists, who are assisting in managing the illness. The scheme allows a person with a complex or chronic illness to claim a Medicare rebate for a total of five sessions.

To be eligible, you must have a GP referral for the sessions, as part of the Chronic Disease Management Plan.

  • Many private health insurance plans offer rebates for psychological services as part of their ‘extras cover.’ To confirm whether your plan includes psychological services and understand the extent of coverage available, please contact your insurer directly.

You will need to pay for your session in full at the time of your appointment and then claim your rebate through your private health insurance.

If you are eligible for both Medicare and private health insurance rebates, you can choose which one to use for payment. Please note that only one rebate type can be used per session.

 FAQs

  • I work with a wide range of clients, including children (typically aged 7 and above), adolescents, adults, and couples.

  • Telehealth is a flexible and effective way to access therapy for many people. It may be suitable if you are:

    • Medically stable

    • Not in immediate crisis

    • Living in stable accommodation

    • Not experiencing active suicidal intent or a current risk of harm to yourself or others

    • Live in safe and stable accommodation

    • Are not experiencing active domestic or family violence

    • Do not require intensive or inpatient mental health, addiction, or eating disorder treatment

As a community-based telehealth service, I provide Level 3 care within the stepped care model — offering weekly therapy for individuals who are stable and able to engage in regular outpatient treatment.

For those experiencing more severe or complex needs, such as:

    • Severe substance dependence requiring detox, rehabilitation, or residential care

    • Moderate to severe eating disorders that require:

      • Level 4: Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP)

      • Level 5: Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP)

      • Level 6: Residential or inpatient care

    — a higher level of support is recommended.

To get the most out of therapy, it's important that you have a safe, private space to talk and the capacity to engage in regular sessions. If you're unsure whether telehealth is the right fit, feel free to get in touch — I'm happy to discuss your needs and help you explore the most appropriate support.

I understand the unique challenges related to identity, discrimination, and relationships, and draw on training in LGBTQIA+ competency to offer respectful and compassionate care.

  • You’ll need a quiet, private space, a stable internet connection, and basic comfort with using video platforms. Sessions are held via HIPAA-compliant software (Zanda, linked to Zoom) to ensure your privacy and confidentiality.

  • It’s normal to feel a little nervous before your first session. We’ll have a relaxed conversation about what’s brought you to therapy and what you’d like to work on. This session is also a chance to see if we’re a good fit, as the success of therapy largely depends on the relationship between therapist and client.

I’ll begin to understand your experiences and what might be triggering and maintaining your current challenges. Together, we’ll decide on a flexible plan for future sessions.

You’ll receive an email beforehand with your appointment details and forms to complete. If you have a referral or Mental Health Treatment Plan, please send it through prior to your session.

  • The number of sessions varies depending on the complexity of what you’re working through, your individual needs, goals and treatment type. Some people benefit from short-term therapy focused on a specific issue, while others find value in ongoing support long-term. We'll discuss this during your initial sessions and develop a plan that feels manageable and meaningful for you.

    EMDR
For single-incident trauma, many people benefit from around 6 to 12 sessions.

For more complex or developmental trauma, or issues involving dissociation, attachment wounds, or long-standing patterns of anxiety or low self-worth, a longer course of therapy may be needed. This could mean 25 + sessions over 6 months or longer.

EMDR is a structured, 8-phase approach. We begin with a thorough assessment and preparation phase before moving into trauma reprocessing. Your treatment plan will be tailored to your goals, and we’ll review progress together along the way.

  • Yes, everything you share is confidential. The only exceptions are if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or if information is required by law (e.g., a court subpoena). If either situation arises, I will discuss it with you.

  • The Australian Psychological Society (APS) recommends a fee of $250–$300 per hour for psychological services. In an effort to keep therapy accessible, I have set my standard fee below this range.

A reduced sliding scale fee of $160 per session is available for eligible clients, including full-time students, Centrelink Healthcare Card holders, and individuals without access to Medicare (e.g., recent immigrants).

Please feel welcome to contact me to discuss your eligibility or financial circumstances in more detail.

  • Liminal State Psychology has a 24-hour cancellation and rescheduling policy to ensure there is enough time to offer your appointment to other clients. Cancellations or changes made within 24 hours of the appointment will incur a full session fee, payable before rebooking. Same-day cancellations and no-shows will also be charged the full session fee. These fees may be waived in one-off or emergency situations at my discretion.

  • You are welcome to email me at any time, but please note that I am only available to respond during my working hours (9am-5pm weekdays QLD time). Liminal State Psychology is not an emergency service. If you need immediate support, please contact emergency services right away.
