Welcome to Liminal State Psychology. Your privacy is important to us. This policy outlines how we manage your personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and guidelines from the Australian Psychological Society (APS).

We collect personal information that is relevant and necessary for the provision of psychological services. This may include:

  • Medical and mental health history

  • Session notes and correspondence with other health providers

Information is collected via:

  • Intake forms (online or hard copy)

  • Direct communication during sessions

  • Emails and phone contact

  • Referrals and reports from third parties (e.g., GPs, allied health professionals)

2. Telehealth & Digital Services

Liminal State Psychology provides Telehealth sessions via Zanda (formerly Power Diary), a secure practice management platform compliant with HIPAA and Australian privacy standards. Zanda uses end-to-end encrypted WebRTC technology for your safety and confidentiality.

  • Sessions are not recorded.

  • Clients are not permitted to record sessions.

3. Storage & Security of Information

All personal information is stored securely within Zanda’s encrypted system. Access is limited to authorised clinicians and staff. We take reasonable steps to protect your data from misuse, interference, loss, or unauthorised access.

4. Anonymity & Use of Pseudonyms

Clients may request to remain anonymous or use a pseudonym where practical. However, in most cases, this may limit our ability to provide psychological services or meet legal obligations. If approved, fees must be paid in full at the time of booking.

5. Purpose of Collecting Information

We collect your personal information in order to:

  • Provide psychological assessment, treatment, and support

  • Maintain accurate clinical records for continuity of care

Personal session notes are used solely for therapeutic purposes and are not released to third parties except where required by law.

6. Access to Personal Information

You may request access to your personal information at any time by contacting the Principal Psychologist or Practice Manager.

  • Requests will be responded to within 30 days

  • A reasonable fee may apply for accessing or copying clinical records, in accordance with the APS Code of Ethics and Australian Privacy Principles

  • Requests may be declined in specific circumstances (e.g., if disclosure poses a risk to the client or others)

7. Disclosure of Information

Your information will only be disclosed in the following situations:

  • With your written consent

  • If subpoenaed by a court

  • If there is a serious risk to your life, health, or safety, or that of another person

  • Where disclosure is required or authorised by law (e.g., mandatory reporting)

We do not disclose personal information to overseas recipients unless legally required or with your explicit consent.
